What is My Vibe Check?

My Vibe Check is an online tool that provides high school counselors their students' emotional wellness trends. Students anonymously report their daily feelings through a secure questionnaire, which are then consolidated and presented to their counselor as easily digestible graphics. Counselors can see in real time the overarching emotional wellness trends of their student bodies and can therefore tailor their outreach accordingly. The tool also provides students journaling prompts and online counseling resources, as well as counselor resources for next-steps in assisting at-risk students.

Homewood Strategies is an in-class marketing agency comprised of Johns Hopkins University undergraduate students in the Advertising & Integrated Marketing Communication course. This semester, we are participating in the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Invent2Prevent program. As part of the program, we are developing and promoting a tool to counter targeted school violence.

What is Invent 2 Prevent?

Invent2Prevent is a program fully funded by the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships and implemented by the McCain Institute and EdVenture Partners. The experiential learning program challenges hundreds of high school and college students around the nation to create products, tools, or initiatives to address targeted hate and terrorism and compete to present to DHS in Washington, D.C. Since its inception in Spring 2021, more than 700 students in 111 collegiate programs across 32 states and Washington D.C. have participated in Invent2Prevent, as well as 54 high school programs across 20 states.

The Department of Homeland Security's Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3) works with communities to prevent acts of targeted violence and terrorism, including attacks on schools, workplaces, public gatherings, and other settings. CP3 seeks to ensure that the leaders of tomorrow play an active role in designing innovative solutions to build more resilient communities today through programs such as Invent2Prevent.
